We see God’s will fully accomplished on the earth during the account of creation before the fall of man. Everything was very good. There is no account of sickness, disease, sorrow or death. It will be the same way at the end of the age when God and His people are together. God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. (Revelation 21:4)
We can see God’s perfect will as wholeness for His children. Is it possible to live in this wholeness while in a sin- and sickness-filled world? It depends on your faith. What can you believe God wants to do for you?
I like the story of the woman with the issue of blood who was determined to get hold of Jesus’ clothing to get some healing anointing for her disease-ridden body. (Mark 5:25-34) I like her guts! Did you ever notice that she didn’t ask Jesus if she could be healed? Most of the Gospel stories record people asking Jesus to heal them or a loved one. This woman couldn’t ask because it was illegal for her, according to their religious tradition, to be among the crowds while she was bleeding. So she tried to do this stealthily, behind the scenes. “I just need one little touch,” she thought. “Surely that won’t bother anyone. They don’t even have to know I’ve been here.”
But God had other ideas. He wanted to affirm her after her years of failure and heartache. He wanted to celebrate her faith to be recorded for generations to come. Jesus stopped on His very important mission to a very important person’s house to find this woman, commend her faith and send her off in peace. There is a lot that could be said from this story, but what amazes me is the fact that she didn’t get anybody’s permission to do this, least of all Jesus’. She “assumed” that if He was healing everyone else, she could get some too! She was determined to receive God’s power for her own condition – and that is great faith. She didn’t wonder if it was OK with God if she could be healed, or if that would be stretching His resources to send some healing her way. (These thoughts must sound ridiculous to the God of the universe!)
Jesus didn’t reprimand her at all, as we noted, but sang her praises instead. He likes when we are confident about His healing power. He likes it when we receive what we need. He is excited for us to be whole. He paid a great price to provide it for us!
Confession: Jesus loves to heal me; He loves for me to be whole.
