HEALING BELONGS TO YOU

Lesson 5

Who does healing belong to? To answer that question, we have to ask: Who does salvation belong to?

“God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) Jesus said that whoever believes can escape destruction and obtain eternal life. Likewise, whoever believes can obtain physical healing (or emotional or mental healing, as well) because, as we learned last time, the spiritual and the physical redemption of man go hand in hand.

Jesus said that healing was the children’s bread, speaking of the Jews in covenant with God. However, He was speaking of a time before the cross. Remember the Syro-Phoenician woman? Even though she was a Gentile and outside the Jewish covenant, through her faith she was able to obtain the benefits of the covenant, including healing.

Jesus commended her faith, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour. (Matthew 15:28)

She was a foreshadowing of Gentile believers who would become part of the household of faith. God has opened up the covenant to any who will believe – even those who used to be outsiders. Healing belongs to the whole world! There is enough healing power available today to take care of every sickness, disease and infirmity that would ever be experienced by any person in the world, throughout time. And it comes to those who will believe.

It was only through God looking ahead to the cross, the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world, that people could be healed under the Old Covenant. There is no benefit of the covenant that is offered without the shedding of blood. (Hebrews 9:22) The New Testament makes it clear that the blood of animals is not sufficient to erase man’s sinful condition and make him an heir of the promises. (Hebrews 10:4) It was only the blood of Jesus Christ that was to come -- which God saw as an accomplished fact -- that allowed Him to bring healing to those in physical need before Calvary.

How much more is God willing for us to receive His healing power, now that Calvary has already happened!

God’s plan of salvation is for the whole man – spirit, soul and body. Let’s appropriate each part of it, because it cost Him a great price to make it available to us.

Confession: Healing belongs to everyone who will believe, and I believe!

Scriptures for meditation: John 3:16; Ephesians 3:6; Hebrews 9:11-15
