Faith fact number three: Living in love is vital to living in health.
Bitterness, unforgiveness, strife and other negative emotions not only open the door for sickness and disease to come into your life, but they also block God’s healing power from coming to you.
Yesterday we saw that you become a new person when you invite God into your life. The lesson before that we learned that your core identity is no longer fear-based. What is at the center of your being now?
Love. “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5) If we violate who we truly are, children of love and light, we will have trouble receiving from God our Father, Who is love.
All of our life is generated from within: Out of your heart spring the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23) Our heart can become clogged with negativity, stress, anger, hatred and depression, especially if that is all that we are feeding our hearts! Our inner man needs a healthy diet of the word of God. He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions. (Psalm 107:20) His word can flush out even the most negative of emotions and impressions in our hearts.
We want the word of God to find good ground in our hearts so it can germinate and grow. Walking in God’s love – experiencing it for ourselves and giving it to others – brings health to every part of us because we are then most closely connected to the dynamo of the universe, God Himself.
The three parts of our being are more closely linked than we think. We cannot think any way we want to in our minds (because thoughts are seeds) and expect to have a harvest of health and blessing in our bodies. It doesn’t work that way. The road to healing involves the good ground in our heart being cleared of weeds and rocks, right seed sown in it by way of God-inspired words and thoughts, and then the watering of the Holy Spirit by accepting His love and letting it flow through us to others.
Take a moment right now to ask God to reveal to you any wrong thinking that is clogging your heart. Be open to what He brings to your thoughts; it may surprise you. Then be quick to ask God to forgive you and cleanse you. Replace those old thoughts with the new, life-energizing thoughts of the Bible. Believe that the love that is in you can overcome all evil. Trust God to be your vindicator and deliverer in whatever situation that tempts you to have negative emotions. Then expect God’s healing power to come like a river as you fully submit every part of yourself to Him.
Confession: I am born of love, and I walk in God’s love every day.
