Fact number one: You have to win the battle with fear before you can receive healing from God.
Can you recall a scene in a movie when a fearful person is trying to bluff and intimidate his foe? (Think Barney Fife.) He draws a line in the sand, but then backs up when the enemy crosses it, and draws another line! The terrorized person is not really going to face off with the enemy, but he is trying to put up a good front. Unfortunately, nobody is fooled by the bluff, except maybe Barney himself.
That’s what we look like to our enemies – sin, sickness, disease and Satan – when we are afraid.
The problem is that fear comes automatically with sickness and disease. The two are intimately connected to death, and death is the overarching fear known to man. You will have to deal with fear first or you will never have faith for healing (or anything else) working for you.
The good news is that God has delivered us from being fear-based. It is no longer central to our nature! God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound (disciplined) mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) You did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Daddy!” (Romans 8:15)
Fear, like sickness and disease, came into the world along with sin. Some of the first words out of Adam’s mouth following his sin were: “I was afraid and I hid myself.” (Genesis 3:10) Separation from God begot fear in the first man, and that was passed down to each one of us. There was a vacuum created when mankind was unable to access God’s love in his spirit any longer. That absence of love, that spiritual aloneness and feeling of vulnerability, is the basis of all fear.
Know this, though: Jesus has eradicated the root cause of fear, by experiencing death – spirit, soul and body – for every person. Through His death, Jesus destroyed him who had the power of death, the devil, and RELEASED those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:14-15) You are released from all fear! You are now love-based, and you have all the power and discipline you need to eradicate fear from your life. You are adopted by the God of the universe and are no longer spiritually alone.
It’s time to declare war on terror in your own life. All unhealthy fear that makes us timid, cowering, intimidated and backing down from God’s will needs to be confronted and dealt with. God has given us the ability to do it. Once we decide not to put up with fear any longer, our faith will soar to new heights and receiving healing will not be a struggle.
Confession: I am adopted by the God of the universe as His very own child; I have a spirit of love, power and a sound mind. I do not tolerate fear.
